More Washingtonians Break Up the Winter with Travel to Warm Temperatures and Theme Parks

Digging into booking data for President’s Day week — a time that coincides with a mid-winter break for some schools — AAA identified California, the Hawaiian Islands, Phoenix and Florida as the top out-of-state destinations.

  • While still lower than pre-pandemic levels, the number of air/car/hotel travel bookings for this time-period show an upward trend from last year:
    • Compared to 2021, bookings made with AAA travel agents jumped a staggering 245 percent.
    • Online sales experienced a year-over-year increase of 37 percent.
  • There are lots of eager travelers as well. A series of January AAA virtual cruise shows attracted more than 1,200 attendees ready to plan voyages for 2023 and 2024. Their top bookings so far are to Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean and Mexico.
