Travelers Nearing Pre-pandemic Level of Spending on Cruises

Welcome to AAA Travel Hub — the media’s one-stop shop for the latest travel trends and data compiled from AAA Washington booking.

Visit our webpage, https://blog.wa.aaa.com/travel-hub to distribute on your channels & platforms.

The latest AAA data shows Washingtonians investing in a return to the rivers and high seas, in 2022 and 2023.

  • During the first quarter of 2021, the amount of money AAA clients paid to book cruises was just two percent less than they spent in 2019; 80% of those sailings depart in 2022 and 2023.
  • Online bookings reveal the lasting popularity of impromptu trips. Same-day reservations make up 50% of all car rentals, hotel rooms and flights.
  • Of clients booking travel inside AAA stores this March, 27% of these sales were made at Eastern Washington locations, compared to 20% in March 2019.
  • While road trips remain the top mode of travel, AAA clients might be ready to move from their vehicles to the rails. In fact, 20% of our Winter Travel Show attendees watched Amtrak’s presentation on visiting America’s National Parks by train.
