Looking Back on an Egypt Adventure

Reflecting on an Egypt Adventure

Don’t Stop Dreaming About Your Next Big Trip

Travel is a huge part of my life, personally and professionally, and exploring the world is always on my mind.

So even though I haven’t been able to travel recently, I have not stopped dreaming about my next adventure and reflecting on some of my favorite journeys of the past.

One trip that really had an impact was my tour of Egypt. When I first arrived in Cairo, my senses were overloaded by activity, colors, sounds and people — including wild drivers.

Seeing how close you can see the pyramids even when you are not visiting the historical site was another shock. I could gaze at these mind-boggling wonders right from my hotel room. There’s more magnificent history around every corner, including the 120,000 priceless treasures at the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.

Later, I embarked on a truly magical Nile River cruise. I saw many of Egypt’s great cities and archaeological sites, including Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan and Abu Simbel.

Each day in port, we would head out during the cooler morning and late afternoon hours, and our guides would offer a window into the fascinating history that had taken place all around us. During the hot midday hours, we took refuge on our ship’s luxurious couches and chairs and slowly floated past incomparable cultural sites. Evenings were spent dining with shipmates and sharing our thoughts on the day’s incredible discoveries.

Like most travel, this journey was not only an enjoyable escape, but also a learning experience. When abroad, I am constantly reminded that no matter how exotic a culture may appear on the surface, deeper down we really aren’t all that different. Even cultures from thousands of years ago don’t seem all that unalike when you’re standing in a tomb so well-preserved and vibrant that it appears it could have been sealed up months rather than centuries ago.

Keep dreaming about travel and planning your next adventure, whether it’s close to home or around the globe. When you’re ready to make unforgettable new travel memories, AAA Travel is here to help!
