Dreaming of River Cruises Near and Far
With summer in full swing, I’ve been thinking less about tropical travel and more about my past summer vacation memories — even those of when I was a kid floating down the river on an inner tube and soaking up the moment. Since then, my taste evolved. Although I still love floating down a river, I dream of traveling once again on one of those top river cruises to explore places near and far.
Europe, Asia and Africa are home to many of the world’s most incredible rivers to cruise. There are plenty of choices. Think of cruising the Rhine, the Danube, the Rhone; the rivers of Cambodia and Vietnam; or Egypt’s mysterious Nile. These rivers flow with history, culture and breathtaking beauty, and have carried me to some of my most memorable travel experiences. It’s no wonder Viking River Cruises and AmaWaterways are seeing their departures on these rivers filling up quickly for 2022 and 2023. Apparently, fellow eager travelers have been trying to ensure that they are booked to turn their cruise dreams into reality.
River cruising in the United States is another favorite. Cruise lines like American Queen Steamboat Co., American Cruise Line and UnCruise Adventures offer luxurious riverbound adventures right in our own backyard. These cruises allowed me to see the Southern charms of the Mississippi, the dazzling fall colors of the Northeast, and the rugged natural beauty of the Snake and Columbia rivers. I can’t wait to revisit these places.
