When, Where and How to See Daffodils in the Skagit Valley
Can’t wait for the spring? See early blooms at La Conner Daffodil Festival, which runs through the month of March and offers around 450 acres of bright, yellow daffodil fields.
The La Conner Daffodil Festival celebrates the annual bloom of daffodils that burst with a yellow glow in the fields around this community located halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., in Skagit County. This first bloom is a true sign of the arrival of spring.
Also, swing through the town itself for outdoor dining, artisan wares and public artwork throughout town.
Here is what you need to know to have a fun and safe trip.
Where are the daffodils blooming in the Skagit Valley?
This year’s Skagit Valley daffodil bloom starts in early spring. This map shows where you can find fields in bloom so you can get your route ready to go.
A scenic drive through daffodil country is a great way to celebrate spring. Most of the flower fields are south of Washington State Route 536 between the Skagit River and the Swinomish Channel.
Washington Bulb Co.’s RoozenGaarde — which is famous for tulips but actually farms more acres of daffodils — is open year round, but you should call ahead or check online to see what flowers are in bloom.
La Conner Daffodil Festival events and activities
Don’t miss the many events that will take place around the festival, including an ice cream social on March 10, a pet fashion show and parade on March 19 and an all-day murder mystery event on March 25.
You’ll have plenty of photo opportunities on your floral adventure, but don’t keep your snapshots to just yourself and your Instagram followers.
La Conner’s annual daffodil photo contest has categories for kids, teens and adults so the whole family can participate for prizes and the chance to be featured in the La Conner Daffodil Festival guide.
Tips for Touring Skagit Valley Flower Fields
When driving through the Skagit Valley, be prepared for traffic congestion, watch for bicyclists and pedestrians when driving through town and along the fields, and stay out of the fields unless invited.
Pull safely off the road to admire flowers and make sure to stay on paths instead of stepping on the flowers or the soil even between the rows, which can damage the plants and their underground bulbs and spread disease.
Parking areas and paths may be muddy, so bring your boots, a change of footwear and garbage bags or towels to keep the inside of your car clean when you’re done.
And don’t pick or cut daffodils, tulips or any other flowers from the fields. Instead, look for fresh-cut flowers from farmstands, vendors around town, including Boy Scouts and members of the Kiwanis Club of La Conner.
