The mythical ‘squatch is elusive in the wild… but also everywhere you look: TV and movies, the music festival, bumper stickers, coffee stands and SO much more.
Socks with Sandals
The quintessential PNW fashion, for better or worse. Proper styling dictates a pairing of stark-white, calf-height socks with strappy sport sandals and shorts.
Cream Cheese on Hot Dogs
This game-day favorite has become signature Washington cuisine. Outsiders may question our tastebuds - until they try it!
Pickleball
Invented on Bainbridge Island in 1965, and named the official sport of Washington in 2022. Also, the only sport that allows you to Dink into the Kitchen.
Hiking
Combine walking with uneven terrain, and boom, you have the PNW’s favorite activity. Dressing like a hiker at all times – e.g., at the grocery store – is also extremely PNW.
Raincoat Instead of Umbrella
Use an umbrella, and locals may look at you as though you’re a purple giraffe from space. A raincoat, usually with the hood down – even while raining – is preferred.
Coffee Shops Everywhere
Why do we need coffee shops across the street from coffee shops, next to grocery stores that contain coffee shops, with espresso stands in the parking lots? We just do.
Shellfish Obsession
In most places, finding “treasure” at the beach involves buried doubloons. Here, it means clams, mussels, oysters, crabs, even the confounding geoduck.
